Okay so now I'm gonna share about our (my family) xmas tradition, well not tradition actually, it's just things, correction: weird things we have/do on xmas (Oh and I'm not gonna talk about the religious thingy) by the way, my family consists of four: me, my dad, my mom, and my big brother, but only three of us celebrate xmas, you see, my dad's a muslim.
so, here goes..
Weirdness #1:
Our tannenbaum size changes form time to time. First xmas tree we have (after I was born) was this stiff, ugly, very plasticy, huge tree. And it's ugly. Have I mentioned that it's ugly? Tree was hard to set up, too many plastic leaves, it's very inconvenient so we deciced to buy new tree, smaller one, better-looking one. Then a year after that we still think this new tree is too huge, we bought another smaller one, and so on until it finally reached a 2-feet-tall tree, it's so small that we put it on top of the cupboard, got no xmas light on it and all, it was not decent. So we decided to buy new tree, bigger one, one with built in light, tree was great, easy to set up, but it didn't last long because the friggin' lights were broken the next year. Bought another tree, not too huge, not too small, just perfect. We still have it until now.
Weirdness #2:
Still about xmas tree. There was this one time when our tree didn't have a star or anything on top of it. Mom said "nowhere to be found, no big deal anyway" and I said "xmas tree without a star? It's no xmas tree." so my mom searched all over the place, and she found a star. A very old star I presume, with weird silvery fringe on the side, boy was it tacky or what, but at least we have a star.
Weirdness #3:
Yet still about xmas tree. We don't decorate the tree together with the whole family, most of the time it was just my mom, and most of the time our tree is, just like the old star, tacky.
Weirdness #4:
There's no exchanging gifts tradition in our family. We (I and my brother) get gifts for xmas, but it was long time ago, maybe when we were in early primary school. I remember I pray for a barbie doll once, and the next day I got this mini kitchen set thing, my santa fail, lmao, kidding, I love the gift, really.
Weirdness #5:
Other than xmas tree, we have no xmas decoration at all in or outside the house, no weird round thing that people usually hang on the door (what's that called anyway?) no santas doll, snowman or whatever, nada.
Weirdness #6:
Mom always serves sate ayam as (one of the) xmas dish. Almost every single goddamn year, that what makes it weird.
Weirdness #7:
Even though our tree is tacky, even though there's no gift, even though I'm sick of sate ayam on xmas, and sometimes my dad's not even around (he works abroad), I still love our xmas, those weirdness are ones that I sure am gonna miss when I finally grow up and live apart from my family, awww I love you :')
